It changed so much that Melee players despise the next versions. With Smash, even if most tournaments dropped Melee in favour of Smash for WiiU the Melee players would still play Melee. People still play Third Strike and Street Fighter IV because they don't like SFV at all and refuse to start playing it even though Capcom has established it as the tournament standard. Ursprungligen skrivet av Herzenswärme:It didn't change enough to split or drop the playerbase. (This is all assuming you have the consoles to play them.) So they have the single player content to keep you busy for a good amount of time. (For better and worse.)Īlot of older tekkens have extra modes: devil within, tekken force, tekken etc. It's different than every other tekken in the franchise. If you want to play every single old tekken, then consider picking up tekken 4. I would say try tekken 6 for the story and then tekken tag 2 to complete your journey through older tekkens. This is considered a masterpiece tekken title by many, and is home to one of, if not the most iconic song in tekken history. Then if you want even more old school fun, get tekken tag 1 for PS2. Tekken 3 is highly considered THE BEST in the series. It has extra fun modes too and more characters. Not only is it a magnificent tekken game, but It also came with tekken 1, 2, and 3 arcade versions. Basically, there's no point to force yourself to play a specific game just because of the tournament scene unless you are trying to live off of it. And if Guilty Gear ^ Core +R didn't have a netcode so awful I would still play that even if Xrd is the latest version that's played on tournaments. A lot of people only play online and maybe with friends and have never participated in a tournament. Before there were the arcades and now there's the online. Of course fighting games are about competition, but not all competitions comes in the shape of tournaments. It didn't change enough to split or drop the playerbase. Blazblue Cross Tag Battle may substitute Centralfiction in the tournament scene but if I like the main Blazblue series better I won't stop playing Centralfiction because of that.Įverybody can play whatever they want to, it's their rightful choice! But OP asked for advice and I simply gave mine, which is that playing old "versions" of fighting games, which are not tournament viable anymore, has little to no use, mainly because fighting games appeal to excatly that: a competitive, tournament focused audience.Įverybody can play whatever they want to, it's their rightful choice! Why base what you play around what games are played in tournaments? If the game is fun and there's people that play it you really don't need any other reason to play it. As for your last sentence, I don't really understand what you're trying to say. I feel that right now, SFV is closer to Street Fighter II than a lot of previous versions were. That was the point I was trying to make, I do think it has changed much. But now that I think about it, it wouldn't surprised me if you told me a lot of people prefered to play Tekken Tag instead of Tekken 4 back in the day. Street Fighter 3 almost killed the SF franchise by itself.
